HOW TO RECEIVE THE PROGRAM

The Chesapeake Meteorite: A Message From the Past is available by C-Band satellite and is free to all educational institutions. Please talk with the library/media specialist in your building to first see if your school or institution has a moveable C-Band satellite dish and receiver. If you do have the equipment needed, work with the media specialist to coordinate the satellite download on the day of the broadcast. Once registered (see below), you will receive an e-mail with information on accessing the satellite coordinates. Provide the satellite coordinates, date, and time of this broadcast to your media specialist.

You will want to have a large monitor in your classroom for viewing the program and a telephone for students to call in during the live program and talk with the experts. You are also encouraged to tape the program using a VCR so you can view the program again with other students.

Don't Have A Satellite Dish?

If you do not have satellite capabilities, try the following:

If you have cable in your school, contact your local cable company and speak to the programmers for your area's public access channel. Request a download of this educational program and an airing (simulcast) on the access channel. You will need to provide the cable company with the satellite information sent to you after you have registered. Contact the cable company early so that this program can be scheduled well in advance of the live broadcast date on October 9, 2002.

Contact the educational programming department at your local public TV station and request that someone download and air this program for you. Follow the same procedure as above.

Advise those you speak to at the cable company or the public station that this program is offered to all educational institutions free of charge. They have permission to air the program. If they have questions or concerns, direct them to the Prince William Network at 800-609-2680. YOU MUST MAKE THE INTIAL CONTACT WITH THESE AGENCIES.

If you are unable to find any way to receive the program live, a videotape of The Chesapeake Meteorite: A Message From the Past will be available for a fee several weeks after the broadcast. Call 800-609-2680 for more information.
